Layers of Fear 2 is a first-person perspective horror game developed by Bloober Team and published by Gun Media. It is the second installment of the series. In LoF 2 the player controls the character of the Actor, hired to perform on a luxurious cruiser. What initially seemed to be a simple job of performing for bored rich folks will turn into a fight for survival against the mysterious forces that seem to be haunting the ship.

Gameplay

Layers of Fear 2 is an exploration based FPP game. The player controls a nameless Actor, who travels across the narrow corridors of the cruiser ship, trying to search the character he’s supposed to be playing within himself. The game’s world is not linear, however, and traversing it is not as simple as just going through a door. As the Actor’s mind begins to unravel, the corridors seem to be leading nowhere, doors that used to lead into one place now lead someplace completely different. The player's job is to traverse these haunted halls trying to piece together the actor’s past and not lose their mind as time and space start playing tricks around them.

Story summary

You are an actor. No, correction, you are THE ACTOR! Your job is to bring people joy or sadness, courage, and fear. Your performance must be perfect, for the acting craft cares little about those who are less than. You are the main event, the centerpiece, the man of the hour. So, act. Board the luxurious cruiser and make these rich folks weep the tears of joy, sorrow or fear. The stage demands your total commitment. Find the character within you, lose yourself completely to the part you’re playing, so much that you start doubting what is real! The stage is yours. The camera is rolling. Time for your performance is now!

Reception

The Layers of Fear 2 was met with positive reception from the critics. Reviews praised the games setting and old cinema-related themes. They noted the psychological horror aspects of the game created by changing environments and references to the history of cinema, which complemented the story of the game.
